Trading on the local stock exchange saw a mix of strong advances and notable declines today, with several companies experiencing significant shifts in their share prices. The day’s movements highlighted investor interest in a few select counters while others faced downward pressure.
Top Gainers: Travel and Emerging Sectors Lead the Charge
Leading the day's gainers was UPSON INTERNATIONAL CORP. (UPSON), which saw its shares jump by 16.25%, closing at a last done price of 0.93. The stock gained 0.13, with a substantial volume of 5,111,000 shares traded, amounting to a total value of ₱4,906,720.00. This movement indicates renewed interest in the company.
ACESITE (PHILS.) HOTEL CORPORATION (ACE) followed closely, soaring by 15.625%. Its last done price settled at 1.48, up by 0.20. While the percentage gain was impressive, its trading activity remained modest with 4,000 shares exchanged for a total value of ₱5,820.00, suggesting a concentrated buying interest.
The aviation sector showed strength, with PAL HOLDINGS, INC. (PAL) climbing by 13.33%. The airline holding firm’s shares closed at 2.38, gaining 0.28. This performance comes as the travel industry continues its post-pandemic recovery, attracting significant volume of 5,662,000 shares and a total value of ₱13,011,000.00.
Further bolstering the gainers' list, HARBOR STAR SHIPPING SERVICES, INC. (TUGS) saw a 12.88% increase, with its last done price at 1.84, up by 0.21. The shipping firm traded a high volume of 18,966,000 shares, generating a total value of ₱33,989,900.00, indicating robust market activity. PACIFICA HOLDINGS, INC. (PA) also posted a strong 12.05% gain, closing at 0.93, a 0.10 increase, on a volume of 158,000 shares worth ₱142,330.00.
Other notable advancers included GMA HOLDINGS, INC. - PHILIPPINE DEPOSIT RECEIPTS (GMAP) rising by 8.62%, EURO-MED LABORATORIES PHIL., INC. (EURO) up 8.11%, PRIMEX CORPORATION (PRMX) increasing by 6.19%, CIRTEK HOLDINGS PHILIPPINES CORPORATION (TECH) with a 5.83% climb, and BENGUET CORPORATION "B" (BCB) advancing by 5.48%.
Top Losers: Diversified Holdings and Tech Face Headwinds
On the flip side, BERJAYA PHILIPPINES, INC. (BCOR) led the decliners, plunging by 14.74%. Its last done price fell to 8.10, a decrease of 1.40. With only 1,700 shares traded for a value of ₱13,770.00, this sharp drop suggests a significant revaluation on very limited activity.
ZEUS HOLDINGS, INC. (ZHI) also experienced a substantial setback, shedding 10.26% of its value. The stock closed at 0.070, down by 0.008, with 3,050,000 shares changing hands, totaling ₱215,530.00.
